Answering Business Challenges In The Global Crisis

Business leaders around the world today have the same challenge, namely how they can act effectively in the global crisis at this uncertainty. However, it was just part of it which had acted effectively. How do the steps that need to be done so that the leader can respond with a good business challenges in the midst of a crisis?

Full Uncertainty Condition
The global crisis is a situation full of uncertainty, because no can predict with certainty about what is happening in the future. Companies that still exists today is not a guarantee can keep going concern or to continue to exist.

Chaotic in the financial sector, also spread to the real sector, where business was also hit as demand dropped, along with consumers who cut their spending. According to McKinsey’s global research in November 2008, 55% of respondents admitted that the sales company is the most difficult variables predicted, far more difficult than the other 30% who thought that the most difficult customer preferences predicted.

Effective action
Addressing the crisis management of this uncertainty, the business leaders face increasingly difficult challenges, especially in terms of acting effectively. Whatever you need to do business in order to survive and even win in the middle of a crisis?

According to the latest global survey by McKinsey, less than half of respondents who believe that effective business leaders for the challenges of the global crisis. There are nearly balanced by the assumed effective, but more are thought to be ineffective. That is, some business leaders have not been able to act effectively and meet the challenges of crisis well.

By answering the challenge of the crisis well, then at least a business should focus on the things the following:

Developing a New Strategy
The crisis is now no longer makes the same conditions as before, so that business clearly needs a new strategy that is more relevant. In addition, businesses also need to find a gap in the possibility of new opportunities that allow businesses to further expand again.

An example is Amazon, which is in the midst of crisis and scurrilous,  powerful retail industry precisely because of their strategy to put a competitive price on the products in demand, diversification of selling electronics and other merchandise, and the Amazon Prime membership offers economical delivery packages for a year .

Restructuring
The global crisis that hit so hard cornering is not impossible that a business needs to restructure. Restructuring of an effort to re-organize and structure the company so could return get a profit. Examples of companies are now implementing the restructuring was The Big Three, three automotive companies in the U.S., namely GM, Ford and Chrysler are struggling to improve the company’s because of crisis. GM and Chrysler, even need to restructure a grant from the U.S. government.

Talent Management
Talent management is something that should not be forgotten even in conditions of crisis. The crisis has the potential to lower employee morale and productivity, so that the business should run positive efforts to preserve the employee, such as rewards and recognition as appropriate. And need in mind, companies that do not do layoffs of employees would have the potential to generate greater employee engagement. Through the good talent management, employees are expected to provide good service to customers as well.

Scenario Planning
As I stated earlier, the uncertainty of global economic conditions become a challenge for business leaders. However, in the midst of uncertainty, the leader needs to make decisions. Therefore, the scenario planning is needed to measure the risks of what might happen in the future, so that when the event does occur, it can be taken the right decision.

For example, what if a competitor cut the price to extreme, which potentially lead to market share eroded? Meanwhile, if you take price cut, it will hurt your own business? Such situations should be considered so that later it can result in effective decisions.

So are the steps that need to be done by a leader in the business challenges in the midst of a crisis. With a focus on strengths and opportunities as well as strong leadership milestone, the business will survive and win even though the economy is in crisis.
